How Malcolm X’s, Benjamin Franklin’s, and Mike Rose’s Essays Differ
Though the essays were similar in that they were writing about a common goal, and had similar endeavors getting there, there is a substantial difference that makes them interesting to compare. The time period from which each was written. They were written in very different time periods in history, during different lifetimes even, because of this the perspective on education from the author was completely different. Franklin, being alive in the seventeen hundreds, was around when education was not something everyone had the privilege of doing. Malcolm X, during the civil rights movement, when he was in prison. An Mike Rose, who had a more modern education under unfortunate circumstances. Because of these different perspectives and time periods, it gives the reader a broader insight to what education could be like. It allows the reader to have a broader comparison of less than desirable situations and look into different people’s education hardship and see that a thirst for knowledge stays consistent over time. This difference in the time period, perspective, and individual circumstance, gives the reader multiple ways to relate to the writer and think about their own educational experience in an insightful hue to get worthwhile comparisons from the works.
