Franklin and Malcolm X essays
The Benjamin Franklin and Malcolm X essayed shared several similarities in ideas and processes. The idea both authors were attempting to convey to the reader was that to learn something, you most practice at it. Both essays took the young protagonist, portrayed him as ignorant in a field of study, had him realize his ignorance, and strive to get better. The interesting similarity in the realization of their fault was that both authors were bested by someone else. Franklin by his friend, and Malcolm X by another inmate. Sometimes it takes that kind of competition and loosing at it for us to realize we need to be better at something. The education method used was described in detail for both during the struggle to get better. They are similar essays from the aspect of teaching one self and the ability to get better.
Differences in the two works are difficult to discuss. The ideas are very similar, how it was portrayed was the main difference. Malcolm X described a short period, his time in prison. Franklin went through his life, the trial and error of various jobs, short comings, and experiences. The two works were written so differently that it is almost pointless to discuss. The Ideas are what are important anyway.
Good observations on the character development in both essays!
