Malcolm X’s learning to read thoughts
The text is inspiring. Malcolm X wanted something, to understand, he could talk, read, hear, but he didn’t get it. The words around him were not being comprehended to the level that would be needed to get his point across. So he fixed it, taking the most basic form of word comprehension, the dictionary, and learning from it. Starting at the bottom and working his way up to being able to learn more and more complex things. This, to me is inspiring, and the principal applies to us all. If you want to gain the ability to do something, you start with the most basic form of it and work in a positive direction. This idea is exactly what our first unit is, a narrative about something we learned. A story about a time when we worked up to something better, and in writing one the simplest of literary forms, we work up to being better authors. We start small, basic composition, blog post, whatever, and we work on it. This is the process that everyone takes to being half way decent at anything. Malcolm X’s writing conveyed that well, and it is exactly what we are doing in the first unit of this class.
