American Fast food dependence
In today’s America, the speed at which everything “must” be done is incredibly fast compared to the rest of the world. Therefore our society has built itself up around a certain expected convenience, the convenience of be able to get whatever you want in practically no time at all. This is extremely true of food. When the average American goes on their lunch break, they want instant gratification. This desire of Americans to get what they want now formed a sort of dependence on fast food chains. Go to any fast food restaurant during lunch and you’re bound to find a line. The people in that line are depending on buying a fast meal so they can get back to their fast paced job having been quickly satisfied of their hunger. Think if there were no fast food chains and how that might affect many people’s everyday schedule. Some I think would be in a form of chaos, having developed the dependence on convenience, now not being instantly satisfied. Why did this lifestyle come to be so prevalent? Eric Schlosser of CBS news sums it up nicely, saying “It's easy, it's filling, and it's convenient and inexpensive. Compared to other foods it's something that working people and ordinary people can go out and enjoy.”
