Teachers Similarities and Differences
Mr. Escalante and Mr. Keating have many differences, but even though they taught different subjects at very different times in history, they share similarities as well. Both teachers share a rare passion for the subject they teach and having the ability to teach it. Mr. Escalante puts in extra hours, fights to teach advanced classes even though his superiors do not believe it to be worth while. Mr. Keating states several times “I love to teach” and even lives long distance from his significant other to teach at Welton Academy. This type of passion in teachers is rare and makes for an excellent teacher. But they are extremely different teachers. Mr. Escalante teaches higher level math to kids to get them out of their current situation, to get them a good job, in a sense, he supports the machine of society. Mr. Keating teaches students to be free thinkers, carpe diem. He attempts to teach teenage boys that life is not about being part of the expected society, it is about seizing that moment to potentially have something great come out of it. Both teachers have a great passion and ability to teach their choosen topics, but their major life lesson differs greatly.
