Mr. Escalante vs. Mr. MacFarland
Both of these teachers share some similarities that gave them an edge when educating students and made them successful. Both teachers were not traditionally educated teachers. MacFarland had masters from columbia, not a teaching degree, and Escalante was in engineering. I have seen this in the past, teachers that were not trained teachers, but people that had real world experience in a field, were experts in that field, and because of that, they had a edge that someone that went strait from college to teaching high school whatever does not have. That edge gives them the ability to relate their own real life to the students and show them a different view of why something is important. Both teachers also shared a passion for what they did, they felt it was an important subject, they were experts in the field, knew what they were doing and wanted the student to know as well as them, so they pushed the material hard. Because of this feeling toward the material, hey demanded a lot out of the students. They worked hard to give out as much knowledge as they could, and expected the students to put in the required effort to retain that knowledge. Both teachers were good at what they did and it is in these similarities that they held their edge.
Yes, and now you basically have one possible prototype for what we'll be writing for Paper #2!
