A Real Education
Has the basic education of our youth fallen so far from our natural roots that we actually need this crap for school age children? The concept of inherent mindfulness seems overkill to even need to teach a child. Boyce says “that inherent mindfulness helps us to realize that we live in an interconnected world and puts us in touch with the golden rule.” Those basic life concepts, treat others as you want to be treated, we all live on tis earth so we need to get along, are thing that parents should be instilling in their children from birth on. Kids should know right an wrong when they start school, or at least understand to question something they don’t understand. Is it really necessary to take away from academic learning in school so that a ten year old can learn what their parents should have taught them when they were two? Not to say that yoga isn’t a worthwhile exercise, but if a child can’t learn proper social behaviors and how to react to problems by time they go to school, their parents are to blame, and the whole of society should not be responsible for teaching basic human skills to every kid.

  1. Yes, as the assistant principle in Chalk noted, kids need to be prepped for school in the home--school is not a substitute for the foundations of good behavior that need to start with toddlers.
